If more and more attention has been paid to health lighting in the past two years, it can be said that some new discoveries of LED lights in medical and cosmetics have opened a broad market for health lighting.

Recently, students at the University of Rhode Island (URI) have developed a medical jumpsuit combined with LED light therapy that allows newborns with jaundice to receive phototherapy at home, and doctors can also receive their physiological data remotely.

Due to liver or spleen problems, jaundice patients are unable to properly metabolize bilirubin in the blood, causing yellowing of the eyeballs and skin. The current mainstream treatment for neonatal jaundice is the "phototherapy box". The lamp in the LED phototherapy box can break down bilirubin, but the internal baby cannot contact the parents' limbs during the treatment process, so protective glasses are required.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have shown that using LED lights that flash at a specific frequency can greatly reduce beta-amyloid plaques in the visual cortex of mice with Alzheimer's disease. The principle of this therapy is to help the brain produce amyloid-beta plaques by stimulating brain waves called gamma oscillations while stimulating the activity of cells that can drive these plaques. However, whether this therapy is suitable for human Alzheimer's disease patients still needs further study.
